Lauren Palmer

Artistic Director and Founder
Picture
Lauren founded the Hour-Glass Youth Theatre in 2016 after years of acting in Shakespeare productions herself. Beginning in 9th grade, Lauren performed with the Quest Shakespeare Theatre, a local homeschool group, where she debuted as Hero in Much Ado About Nothing and went on to play Hermione in The Winter's Tale.

In 2015, she attended the British American Drama Academy's three-week Midsummer Conservatory Program and later interned with the Vermont Shakespeare Festival in 2017. Lauren decided to purse acting by completing her first year training at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts before returning to Vermont to explore further interests.
Lauren has directed three full productions with Hour-Glass, including Henry IV, Part One (2016), A Midsummer Night's Dream (2017), and As You Like It (2018).  She also ran a one-week acting intensive for young actors in summer 2019.
Aside from Shakespeare, Lauren is also a part-time homeschool English teacher, a lover of Ancient studies, and a writer.

Aya Yuasa

Director of Music
Aya is currently studying composition and film scoring at Berklee College of Music. Her other interests include planning for her curry food truck retirement plan, traveling, and spending time with friends. Aya composed over a dozen original songs for three Hour-Glass productions, beginning with Henry IV in fall 2016 and most recently with As You Like It (2018). She was also excited to welcome her own small orchestra of local young musicians for the As You Like It production.

Jacob September

Lighting Design
Jacob is an Engineering graduate from the University of Vermont, where he also studied lightning design. His work includes designs for A Midsummer Night's Dream and Henry IV, Part One for the Hour-Glass Youth Theatre; Arcadia, Like Any Other Woman, Dog Sees God, and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown for the UVM University Players; and pieces performed in various Dancing Uphill showcases with the UVM Department of Music and Dance. He has acted as Stage Manager, Board Operator, Electrics Technician and/or Technical Director for shows at UVM and beyond, and has even acted--once.
